We had a lot of fun learning about
THE GREAT AMERICAN COWBOY
with our student teacher, Mrs. Adams!
"Cowboys get to rope cattle and they
also get to camp in the desert. They
get to ride their horses on the
ranches. "
"Cowboys have horses. They ride
on saddles. They wear boots...and
I think they wear belts with silver
buckles."
"Cowboys rope their horses.
Will Rogers was a famous cowboy."
"Cowboys wear fancy belt buckles.
They wear cowboy hats to keep the
sun out of their eyes and so they won't
get snow all over them or rain all over
them.
"I learned that cowboys wear boots to not
fall off the horse. They wear spurs to kick
the horse and make it go faster. It doesn't
hurt because the horse has a strong coat."
"I learned about Cowboys. They don't
ride right in front of another cowboy or
cowgirl because their horse would kick
dust in the next horse's face...and the
horse would go wild!"
"Some cowboys ride bulls. The
cowboys kick the bull so it will go.
The bull bucks up and down fast.
The cowboys try to stay on but
sometimes they fall off. "
"Cowgirls and cowboys like to
ride horses. They ride their horses
in the forest."
"I learned that a cowboy never asks
another cowboy how big their ranch is. It's bad manners."
"Cowboys have ropes called lariats.
They rope cows with the lariats. I'm a
good roper. I rope cows. I rope steers.
I rope my cousins!"
"Cowboys can drink water from
their hats. They scoop water from
the lake. Cowboys can also use
their hat as a fan to cool them
off."
"Cowboys ride
horses and they
scoop water in
their hats and
drink it. Never
tell anyone
you are a bronc
rider or a top
hand because
it means you
are bragging.
Roy Rogers was
a real cowboy
who chased
bad guys."
"Cowgirls ride horses and rope
cows. Cowgirls are very nice
and they live under the open
sky."
